Believe it or not, but some of the most common truths associated with motor oil are actually myths. For one thing, you do not need to change your motor oil every 3,000 miles. Here are a couple of more common truths about engine oil debunked.

For one thing, the "W" in 10W-30 does not stand for "weight." In truth, the "W" actually stands for the viscosity rating for your oil during winter months. Next, the belief that switching the brand of motor oil you use can hurt your engine is a myth. There is no truth to this common belief, and changing engine oil brands has no bearing on your car engine's performance. However, it is always best to use the recommended brand of motor oil provided in your owner's manual.
